One Dead, 16 Thugs Arrested As Gov. Amosun’s Tour Turns Bloody

The aftermath of Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s visit to Yewa South Local Government Area was gruesome as political supporters of two senatorial aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) engaged in a free-for-all fight, in Ilaro.

An eyewitness, Biodun Sowunmi, who escaped the fracas, said the incident occurred during the assessment tour of Governor Ibikunle Amosun to the local government leaving one person dead and several injured.

According to Sowunmi, the gangs were fighting over territorial supremacy, but the governor was not affected in any way since the incident occurred outside the venue where he was addressing the people. He added that dangerous weapons were freely used in the brawl.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that one person lost his life, adding that hoodlums, who used dangerous weapons freely, masterminded the incident.
Mr. Adejobi disclosed that 16 suspects have been arrested while several weapons such as four pump action guns, cutlasses, axes and assorted charms were retrieved.

He said the arrested suspects would be investigated and those that are guilty would face the wrath of law.
