Three former Ministers who resigned their position to seek
elective post in their various state have picked the expression of interest and
nomination form to contest the governorship position in varioius states, under
the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming 2015
elections.
The trio, who were among the seven ministers, who resigned
from the FEC to pursue their political
ambitions were Nyesom Wike, immediate past Minister of State for Education
(Rivers), immediate past minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Orubebe (Delta) and
the immediate past Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu. While
Orubebe was accompanied to the National Secretariat of the Party personally
picked his forms, the duo of Wike and Chukwu purchased their forms by proxy.
A group of Rivers State PDP leaders obtained the Expression
of Interest form for the governorship primary and presented it to Mr Wike. The
group bought the form at the PDP Headquarters, Wadata House, Abuja.
The leaders were drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of
Rivers State and were led by Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo, Chief
Ferdinand Alabaraba, Chief Kenneth Kobani, Chief Austin Opara, former deputy
speaker, House of Representatives, Chief Chibudom Nwuche, former deputy
speaker, House of Representatives, Senator Adawari Pepple, former Senate whip
and Chief Emeka Woke, former Emohua council chairman.
Other leaders include serving PDP members of the House of
Representatives and Rivers State House of Assembly, former legislators, former
council chairmen, captains of industry and youths.
Led by a former Deputy Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Honourable Austin
Opara, the group said it was motivated to pick the forms for the ex-Minister, due
to his pedigree as two-time council boss in the State, former Chief of Staff to
the governor among other political appointments.
Speaking with news men after picking the forms for Wike and
Opara explained that his group would not discourage others from vying for the
gubernatorial ticket, while calling on those interested to exercise their
franchise.
