The Inspector-General of Police, Malam Suleimam Abba, on
Friday said the police authorities had opened
investigation into the brawl between some policemen and members of the
House of Representatives.
Abba condemned the incident while speaking with the State
House correspondents in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with Vice-President
Namadi Sambo.
‘‘Investigations are going on and the press officer will
address you later. Who did what and who didn’t do what will be heard later,
subject to investigation. We just don’t talk anyhow.’’
He dismissed the insinuation that the police attempted to
prevent members of the House of Representatives from performing their legislative
duties
He, however, claimed that some people were seen obstructing
policemen from performing their duties.
‘’Everybody has seen that somebody was even beating
somebody; somebody was pushing a policeman from the car.
‘’Somebody was removing road blocks mounted by the police.
We have never seen this kind of thing. So, we will talk to you later.’’
The News Agency recalls that some members of the House of
Representatives on Thursday were seen jumping over the gate of the National Assembly which was locked on
Thursday.
Following the breakdown of law and order at the National
Assembly, Senate President David Mark shut down the National Assembly till
Tuesday.
