After a few days of intense discussions on who to choose as
a running mate for Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress (APC)
presidential candidate, the leadership of the party has arrived at a decision
on the issue.
According to John Oyegun, the national chairman of the APC,
Buhari would make an official announcement of his running mate on Wednesday.
The deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is
Thursday, December 18. “I have a feeling that he (Muhammadu Buhari) will speak
to you tomorrow on who his running mate will be .
The party has consulted with
the candidate and we have reached some agreement and he will address you
tomorrow,” he said. Oyegun did not give anything away, but TheCable learnt
there would be yet another meeting on Tuesday night to finalise the choice.
Those being considered for the vice-presidential slot are Rotimi Amaechi,
governor of Rivers state, Adams Oshiomhole, governor of Edo state and Yemi
Osibajo, a former Lagos state commissioner for justice.
But Bola Tinubu,
national leader of APC, is also said to be interested. Also mentioned are two
former governors of Ekiti state, Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi.
The name of Mamora
Olorunnimbe, former speaker of the Lagos house of assembly and former senator,
has also been mentioned.
