2015: Speaker Lagos Of House Assembly,Ikuforiji Joins Guber Race

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, yesterday officially declared his intention to contest the governorship seat in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the declaration yesterday at the premises of the Lagos State Television. While reeling out his 10-point cardinal programme, he said one of the major sectors he would tackle if elected was the health sector. The aspirant said he would overhaul the sector and ensure that all public officials use public hospitals, rather than go abroad for treatment. His other cardinal points are the creation of jobs, energy, security, transportation, housing, education, healthcare, tourism, sports, and the environment. According to him, these cardinal programmes were produced after many months of hard work, research, deliberations and exchange of ideas with the best brains in the country.

He said: “Within the first 18 months of my government, our hospitals in Lagos will be upgraded to world class standard. In that time, Lagos government officials including myself will be mandated to undergo medical check-up here instead of abroad.

“Our schools in Lagos will be restored to their former glory and I will not rest until LASU is one of the top 500 universities in the world. He added: “In the area of job creation and poverty alleviation, full and gainful employment will be approached as an indispensable tool of ensuring good life for Lagos. We will also ensure increased production of 99MW Independent Power
Projects to utilise Lagos’s vast hydro power potential, given that about 40 per cent of the state is made up of water.

“Under my governorship, good education will be the bedrock of the building of a prosperous and democratic Lagos. We will improve the quality of education for both state-funded and privately-owned schools. I offer myself as a candidate with a clear vision of a greater Lagos and a commitment to leading the state on a new journey, which consolidates the gains of the past and charts a new future,” he assured

Ikuforiji has being the Speaker of the House since December 2005 till date, is a Muslim born in Epe in 1958.
