A woman, who allegedly bit off her neighbour’s ear, on
Tuesday appeared before an Ikorodu
Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on a charge of aggravated assault.
The police arraigned 25-year-old Shalewa Akinnibo, who
resides at No.3, Remilekun St., Odongunyan, Lagos, over alleged assault on Mrs
Bolajoko Yekeen.
The prosecutor, Insp Iyabode Johnson, told the court that
the accused committed the offence on Oct. 20 at her residence.
Johnson said that the accused bit off Yekeen’s right ear
following a disagreement when both were fetching water.
“The complainant told the accused not to fetch water before
her because she got there before her.
“Akinnibo carried the complainant’s bucket and threw it away.
This resulted in a fight.
“During the fight, the accused bit off Bolajoko’s right ear, causing her a grievous injury,’’ the prosecutor submitted.
She said that the offence contravened Section 243 of the Criminal
Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 243
provides for seven years imprisonment for infliction of a grievous injury.
NAN reports that the prosecutor brought the ear before the
court as evidence.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr B.A. Sonuga, granted the accused bail in
the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of
the accused and the other, a manager of a reputable financial institution.
Sonuga adjourned the case till Nov. 20 for mention. (NAN)
