A 19-year-old woman, Ijeoma Okoro, on Wednesday appeared
before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos over an alleged theft of
N300,000 belonging to her employer.
Okoro, who resides at 9, Jebba St., Ebute Meta in Lagos, is
facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Cpl.Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the
offences were committed on Oct.19 at about 1.30 p.m., at Esuchi Guest House, Railway Line, Otto, Ebute-Meta
in Lagos.
He said that the accused and another one still at large ,converted the money belonging
to one Mr Bassey Ittah, their employer,
to their personal use.
Osuji told the court
that the offences were uncovered when the complainant checked his account book
and the accused could not give satisfactory explanation for the missing
money.
The prosecutor said that the accused ran away but was later
arrested by some police officers, after investigation.
He said that the
offences committed by the accused
contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,
2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285
prescribes a three-year imprisonment for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates
a two-year jail term for conspiracy.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Olatunbosun Abolarinwa, granted the
accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with
two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Dec.4 for trial.(NAN)
